U.S. Imposes Sanctions on China

Import sanctions passed by Senate target use of forced labor.

The Senate passed a bill on Thursday blocking products made in China’s Xinjiang region from being imported into the United States. Senator Marco Rubio of Florida and Senator Jeff Merkley of Oregon introduced the legislation as yet another way to address the alleged systemic abuse of ethnic and religious minorities throughout the region.

“Many companies have already taken steps to clean up their supply chains. And, frankly, they should have no concerns about this law,” Senator Rubio stated. “For those who have not done that, they’ll no longer be able to continue to make Americans — every one of us, frankly — unwitting accomplices in the atrocities, in the genocide.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For members of Congress as they deliberate and vote on legislation addressing issues that face the U.S.
  • For the president as he considers and signs bills passed by Congress.
  • For the United States officials and departments as they craft policy surrounding human rights.
